Introduction

Hi I'm Chris. I currently use Ubuntu Linux 8.04 64-bit. (It replaced Windows Vista on my computer) I also love open-source software like Firefox and OpenOffice. I'm not a Linux coder, I'm more of a tester and promoter of Linux.

Linux offers a robust, fun computing enviroment, how can we help you make better use of it?

I would love to learn more Terminal commands. I used to be an MS-DOS expert back in the 1980s, so memorizing commands and switches are my thing. Using the GUI to get things done on a computer is the easy way out. I prefer command-line OSes.

What appeals to you most about Open Source Software?

It isn't just because open source software is free; rather, bugs are fixed faster than closed-source software models (e.g., Microsoft is really slow at fixing Windows exploits). Also, open-source tends to be more innovative

Do you currently use linux?

Ubuntu 8.04 FTW!

What is your favorite distribution of linux?

Ubuntu so far running under Gnome. I tried KDE's desktop environment, and still have to get used to it. I'm going to learn Solaris soon.
