Have been using Linux for servers for years. My fatigue of Windows XP is pushing me to convert the 5 computers in my house for my family to Linux. I am working with Ubuntu and Fedora.
I have worked through setting up a really good Ubuntu desktop. Getting Oracle & TOra installed are goals as well as using the Oracle client in a Win4Lin windows session to access the Linux Oracle database. After that, I can retire my XP machine.
Linux (at least as a server) is a superior OS in terms of stability and speed. Now that most of my computers are running Linux, the freezes and slowness are a thing of the past.
Yes. My primary laptop is running Ubuntu 9.04 as is another laptop. Another desktop is running Fedora 10. My kids can now go to whatever website without me worrying about viruses.
Ubuntu 9.04 seems to be the ticket but Fedora seems good as well. I like the user friendliness of Ubuntu though. It has required less work to setup on the network.
