One Laptop Per Child may eventually switch from GNU/Linux to Windows
http://truthhappens.r... It seems like locking kids minds into proprietary frames still remaines a priority for the educators. Do you feel the heat? Edited by Jay on May 1, 2008 7:42 PM |

It seems as if Microsoft bought out this program. Their reasons in switching away from Linux seem fishy; their Linux distro doesn't support the latest Flash version, and according to them, the interface sucked. Both are BS because even Ubuntu installs Flash 9 for Linux upon arrival at youtube.com. And they could easily change the interface if they wanted to, even for a slower laptop.
Anyway, neither should really be a reason to switch to Windows XP. Isn't this politics as usual? |

My email correspondence with OLPC just now...
____ To: press@racepointgroup.com Is it true that OLPC will be switching from a Linux OS to a Windows OS? If so, you guys are pathetic, and I need to know so I can withdrawal all my support for the OLPC project as soon as possible. Bruce Wagner ____ From: press@racepointgroup.com This is not true. OLPC will support both Linux and Windows. Governments have been asking for both. ____ To: press@racepointgroup.com That is NOT ok. See http://linux.meetup.c... And http://truthhappens.r... It it self-defeating to go down a proprietary closed corporate path like Windows. It is also self-defeating to split your resources in half between two separate development paths. Windows has no future in a program such as OLPC. Your role is EDUCATION, not backing down to special interests and corporate greed. Don't cave in to anyone. Stick to FREEDOM -- open source software, not corporate interests -- if you hope or expect to get any support from the global community. Bruce Wagner |
