There have been NO meetings since Aug 2009.
Only 1 message is posted each month since Jun 2009. There are 560 members, 1 organizer and 8 assistant-organizers, 3 request ideas for future meetings, and NOTHING is being done. I am trying to leave Windows behind me, I'm learning Ubuntu Linux on my own, since EVERY NYC Linux SIG seems to be on hiatius, some since 2003, 2006. I joined this group because at 560 members it appears to be active, I was wrong. Every member is apparently an Island, working independently, and not sharing skills or tips, or help to mentor newbies, there are NO meetings, socials, install-fest, certification studying, informal get-togethers. I am on my own as I help family and friends leave Microsoft, I'm putting Ubuntu on as many computer/laptops as I can, while saving them plenty of money during this 'Great Recession'. I keep coming across problems, that when I finally know the right question to ask on the Internet, turns out to be simple solutions (love Linux for that). I'm still learning Linux, and unlearning the Windows way of doing things. I used to attend regularly the NYPC back in the mid-'80s, when everyone was learning Windows (and computers), and helping each other out. Just my thoughts and opinions. -Patrick |

I am new to this group, I would be interested in actually meeting up. How about the organizers either get this group going or pass it on to someone who will?

You're on Hiatus?
You and the 9 other people of the Linux Membership Team? It's taken 5 months for someone running this Meetup to respond to my message! What about the 598 Linux members who joined this group to "Meetup" with others, and yet we have no Meetings since Aug 2009, 10 months ago? Another person who just joined this group who respond to me, said and I agree "How about the organizers either get this group going or pass it on to someone who will?" I've been using Linux at home for a year now. I was hoping to meet people and learn. So far I'm still learning Solo, and Googling my questions, and still confused by many things. -Patrick |
