What is Linux

Linux is a community built core computer Operating System (like windows or OS X). It is shared in the same way the educational community and embraces some of the ideals of the Free Software Foundation

Linux has shown that a group of disconnected motivated people can build a better product then multi million dollar corporations. Since its start Linux has been popularized to be included in cell phones, telecommunications and network hardware, DVRs and hundreds of other commercial products. Also the understanding of the power of community have inspired community created encyclopedias, community created music, art, craft, etc... all of which is available to both enjoy and participate in the process.
